Apple turned the smartphone world upside down when they introduced the touchscreen for the original iPhone. Within a couple years, almost every high-end phone was trying to replicate their design.

For those who watch a lot of videos on their phone, or don't have the best vision, large or extra large screens can be a great thing. For anyone who wants a phone that fits comfortably in their pocket, this might not be a good choice.
All other phones come in either a 4.7 inch medium sized screen, or a compact 4 inch screen. The medium screen cuts a nice balance, though can be a bit awkward to use with one hand. The compact screen sacrifices size to deliver a much more manageable device to handle.

Battery Performance
All iPhones contain a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery. Unlike many other smartphones, the battery cannot be easily replaced by consumers. With each iPhone released, the battery is made considerably stronger - but this doesn't necessarily mean that a newer iPhone's battery will last longer.
Though the batteries are getting stronger, they have more of a challenge with the newer more power hungry devices. Getting a long time out of each battery charge means striking a balance between the strength of the battery and the demands of the iPhone.

A final distinguishing feature is optical image stabilization (OIS). This reduces blurring caused by motion of the camera when shooting. If you're planning on snapping pics while on the move, this will be a great feature for you.

The good news is that all iPhones have excellent selfie cameras - but some are better than others. Newer models of the iPhone can also shoot Blu-ray quality video from the selfie camera, whereas all others shoot video a bit below this.
If all you are doing is posting a pic to Instagram, then any iPhone really should be good enough. If you are planning to print out some large portraits though, a higher quality camera might be worth the investment.

A lot of users have found this feature a bit underwhelming however, and it can be difficult to master. If you want to keep the way you interact with your phone's screen simple, you probably won't ever use 3D Touch. For those that crave the most innovative user experience however, this is a must.
Apple Pay
This is a really handy tool that can simplify how you pay online, within apps, and out in the real world. You can easily digitize your credit and debit cards, and can even use Apple Pay to send your contacts money through iMessage.
By all accounts, Apple Pay is very safe to use. However there are a lot of people who understandably don't feel completely comfortable with the idea.
